Something to think about

From my mail bag...

There has been an average of 160,000 troops in the Iraq Theater of operations during the last 22 months, which gives a firearm death rate of 60 per 100,000.

The rate in Washington, DC is 80.6 per 100,000.

That means that you are 25% more likely to be shot and killed in our Nation's Capitol, which has some of the strictest gun control laws in the nation, than you are in Iraq.

Conclusion: We should immediately pull out of Washington, DC.

You're only counting the US troops there, not the Iraqi population or other combatants, thereby assuming that US troop deaths are the only deaths. Conservative estimates of civilian deaths are about 25,000. Population of Iraq is 26 million. That's roughly 100 deaths per 100,000.

Also, the DC murder rate you have is from 1991 when there were 482 homicides for 600,000 people (source). The 2004 number was less than 200, so the new murder rate is approx. 33 per 100,000 (source).
